Ironman Brazil was held the end on May 2004 on the Island of Florianopolis. As an Ironman Hawaii qualifier, it gathered over 1,000 competitors

from 36 countries. The weather was cool since it is the beginning of Winter there so race conditions were ideal. The swim was a little long since some of the buoys reportedly moved due to the currents (I’d agree since my swim time was slow). The bike was “technical” since none of the

roads were closed to vehicle traffic; cyclists were directed to various lanes (or parts of lanes) and were allowed to pass on either side which was unusual. Vehicle traffic was very heavy in places, particularly the hills, but traffic was well controlled by police. The run was very flat which was appreciated. Had a slow time, but managed to run the entire marathon which was very satisfying. Nice people, beautiful country, good trip.
